Piper. She’s mine so I can say it…1 and a half is my LEAST favorite age to photograph! They are so fun and spunky any other time of the day, until you tell them to do something. Then all hell breaks loose. Mine is no exception which is why she hasn’t had a “real” photograph taken of her since she turned 1. I figured I’d give us all a break from the torture. But I couldn’t stand it anymore and just had to capture her pouty looks, mullet ‘do, big round tummy, and spirited personality. So we put on her tutu (her request) and I pulled some teeth to get these gems. And then I threw in a few of my handsome son who turns FIVE this month. I still can’t wrap my head around that one!

I can’t believe my baby turned one last month! And I also can’t believe I managed to take portraits of her every month of her first year, phew! I set the bar too high with my first child and I was determined to keep up with Piper so she wouldn’t suffer the dreaded second-child syndrome. We made it to the finish line with a little kicking and screaming at the end (her, not me.). My independent, strong-willed, sweet, loving, happy little girl has decided she is done with photos for a while. And I’m happy to have these priceless images to remind me of my baby before she grew up! Now the next task is finishing her 11×14 first year book…to match her brother’s of course!
I need a new project like a need a hole in my head. But we all know I can’t resist a good book!! So, with Chance turning 3 last week, I thought I’d begin the process of taking birthday interviews to compile into a book. I decided to take it through year 12 since I think that’s about all the embarrassment and torture my child will be able to take. And let’s be honest, I probably won’t want to know the answers to some of these questions by then anyway (#17?? NO THANKS!).
So, here’s how it’s going to look as a 7×7 softbound book and the remaining pages will be blank so I can add a printed photo and write (in his writing when the time comes) his answers.
So, technically I’m procrastinating but I like to call it “research and development”!
I took my camera on Chance’s and my last outing. He didn’t take a nap and was a total stinker 2 year old but the scowls and stink-eye’s are still cute to me. I’m usually a “realistic” photographer. I think filters are used effectively only when they enhance and not take away from the original image and I like images to still look like an actual photograph. That being said, I have tons of filters and effects that I never use so I thought I’d mess around a little and see what I came up with. Here are the results. I guess I should post before/afters…maybe I’ll do that in another post…but now I have to get back to holiday card designs!!
