The end of 2011 also means the end to the 365 Project – 2011!  Some of you may remember I started the year taking a photo a day to compile into a book at the end of the year.  At the beginning I posted them on FB but eventually felt bad for boring everyone with yet another picture of my kid and yet another playground.  But I did still continue to take photos (almost) every day.  Some days it was really hard to pick just one.  Other days it was really hard to FIND just one!  Now at the end of the year (with a little cheating and 15,468 photos later), I have 348 pages documenting 2011 (not perfect but not too bad for a first try!).  I’m not a good journal-er (my blog can attest to that!) so I am so grateful to have this photo diary of all the little things that we think we’ll never forget, but do!  Plus I have a visual reminder of just how much little ones change in a year!

Things I’ve learned if anyone else is inspired to try for 2012:

Not to be too strict, stress out about, or beat myself up about it.  Just pick the camera up again tomorrow and 200 images or even 5 images at the end of the year is better than none.

Even crappy photos can be memorable.  Who cares if it’s blurry or cropped weird if it speaks to YOU.

Pick a broader subject.  I picked “Chance” for 2011 and while there’s nothing I love more than taking pictures of my kid, it got limiting, and he got irritated!

So, for 2012 my theme will be “My LIfe” and everything that encompasses.  I’m starting off with a challenge, or at least a list of good ideas to work from! 🙂

From stressing about what to wear to trying to get my 2 year old to cooperate…let’s just say I have a new-found understanding of what it takes to make a family portrait!

Thank you to Michael Svoboda for hooking us up, once again!

I can’t believe it’s really been a month since I last blogged…and I don’t even have a picture to share after all that time!  December is such a high production time for me.  For the most part, my camera stays on the shelf and my butt stays in the chair in front of the computer designing away.  I am just whacking the tally on this years totals and I see why I haven’t had a chance to blog…drumroll please…I did almost 70 custom holiday card designs this year, and most of those were ordered in the month of Dec.!!!

Also, for those of you who have noticed and wondered why Buffett Photography “weddings” site has disappeared, never fear!  I am still shooting weddings and am excited to say that for 2011 I am an exclusive wedding photographer of True Photography Weddings!  The good news is they doing some amazing things in the San Diego wedding photography market and I am really looking forward to being surrounded by such great talent.  The bad news is I won’t be sharing any of the work I do with them on my Buffett Photography blog.  If you are interested in hiring me or referring me to shoot your 2011 wedding, please contact the studio directly for more info!

Family portraiture is still my first and true love and it will continue to be my specialty and focus.  Thanks to all the many great friends and clients who have graciously let me capture the little (and sometimes BIG) moments in your lives over the last 13 years.

That’s right!  I, too torture my husband with family photos now (he didn’t realize that was part of the deal with having a baby), and these are our first annual!!  And even better, it was the total opposite of torture – we had a great time and got some awesome images.  I have a whole new appreciation for family portraits now that I have my own family.  These images are priceless to me and I will cherish them forever.  Thank you so much Michael for capturing these amazing moments for us!
