Best Laid Plans...

I have been so excited to take Chance's 2 year portraits.  I have a vision (first mistake - 2 year olds don't share said vision!).  So today was the day.  We go to the store and buy the balloons.  I haul all the gear out and set up with lights, the whole works.  We get Chance dressed in something relatively clean and I get him remotely interested in holding the balloons...up to this point, I still have my vision.  Then it all goes awry... the June gloom that's been covering the skies for the last week and a half decides to burn off after I take 5 frames.  My kid hates the balloons and tells me he's scared (???) and he wants nothing to do with me or the camera.  When he does look at me, I can't tell anyway because I am suddenly realizing how horribly long his hair has gotten.  To top it all off, I didn't put fresh batteries in my lighting so it works maybe a 1/4 of the time, on all the ones where he's not even looking at the camera. All and all, the session lasted 10 painful minutes and we were both exhausted when it was over.  I still managed to squeak a couple of images out (all you need is one, right!?) but not quite what I had pictured in my head.  I'm looking at the sagging balloons tonight wondering if they'll make it long enough to try again tomorrow...then again, maybe not!
